On June 21th Vivero el Pinar and Plant Sciences presented, on Palos de la Frontera (Huevla) the final results of the Splendor Strawberry verity for the 2011 season.
The act, presented by Javier Esteban Director of Vivero el Pinar and Antonio Vazquez, Technical Director, was followed by more than sixty local farmers and technicians. During the presentation, It was summarized all production data of the Splendor variety developed by the Plant Science’s program in California, which is being cultivated in Huelva since 2005. Splendor has represented over 20% of the total production, among a total of 110 million plants and it is very probable i will achieve 30% next season with over 145 million plants.
Despite of the even campaign and the lack of grams per plan in all Splendor varieties, the average has reached a 740g-per-plant, with an early production of 430g before March 30th, which has lead Splendor to be, once again, the reference variety for the farmer, at an average profit of 16 cents per plant more than the rest of varieties on the market.
Regarding the behavior of the cultures, the settling of the plant was very good from the beginning. Despite the fact the plant was discharged in Aprile’s first forth night as a result of the high temperatures, the end of the season standards have been good, even if the season has finished earlier than usual.
We must point out the really interesting feedback at the end of the presentation, given by farmers and technicians, which will for sure enrich our knowledge and experience in order to obtain better results in the future
